The well-known off-road champion and car repair owner, Luis Sandoval, passed away on April 7th after being thrown from his vehicle while it plunged off the Punta Gorda road the night of April 6th. Local residents, who arrived immediately after the crash and delivered the badly injured Sandoval to San Jose ambulance crews were informed that he passed away while on life support in San Jose (hospital) the following day. He is survived by his wife and children.

This is the second fatality to occur on this strech of road in the last few years. We hope that renewed efforts to improve the road marking (with reflectors) as well as signs to advise travelers of the dangerous cliffs will be made in the near future.
