Due to the interesting 'siesta stalling tactic' demonstrated by unnamed 'Perennial Prize Winner' 2002 at Pit Stop #2, and concerning previous 'Maximum Course Completion Time Rule - previously set at '4 hours or less', "Hear Ye, Hear Ye"
('proper notice hereby given', etc.): "The NEW COURSE COMPLETION TIME MAXIMUM for 2003 is now set at 1/2 HOUR for all vehicles

- Updates on Hurricane Kenna - October 30/02
Photos provided by John Warren
Hurricane Kenna passed over the Puerto Vallarta - San Blas area of the mainland causing substantial flooding.
A previous report From CNN (Oct 25): "Hurricane Kenna grew into one of the strongest storms to menace Mexico's Pacific coast in decades on Thursday, with forecasters urging emergency action in an area that includes major tourist resorts. The Category 5 hurricane with winds of 160 mph was veering away from a Baja California summit of world leaders. A hurricane watch was posted for a 200-mile area between Cabo Corrientes and the tourist center of Mazatlan, and a tropical storm watch extended another 125 miles southeast from Cabo Corrientes to Manzanillo. A Category 5 hurricane, the strongest category, is considered capable of causing catastrophic damage. "

- Updates on the Palo Escopeta Road Dump and Other News - July/02

The following information was given to me by Kimberly Clapham, the owner of Terramar Los Cabos. Kim is also the Executive Director of the APEC Private Initiative. Kim has had many conversations with the Director of Los Cabos Municipal Public Works regarding waste management in Los Cabos. The following comments were derived from a conversation I had with her.
With the end of the contract for the concession of the waste management of the Los Cabos area, this valuable business opportunity is now up for bids, and another company could be awarded the contract. Several factors may contribute to who is awarded the business, and how quickly it will be resolved:
The targeted clean up for the area due to the APEC meeting coming to Los Cabos in October has put more focus and urgency on the issue.
In addition to a very poor service record, recent incidents have been caused by carelessness on the part of the company currently under contract:
Two weeks ago, a water main was broken by the current contract holder, and parts of San Jose and ALL of Cabo San Lucas were without water for three days.
About two days later, a speeding dump truck jumped the divider on the Carretera Transpeninsular in front of the Westin Hotel, hitting a car head-on and killing it's driver, a 28 year old man. His father is in State government. The driver has been charged with vehicular manslaughter.
There was a very timely "burn" at the San Lucas dump recently, and many people wee taken to the hospital with lesions and breathing ailments.
The Japanese have shown serious interest in managing the waste of Los Cabos.
In the meantime, another dump has been opened in Cabo San Lucas, and waste from the corridor and San Lucas is no longer being diverted to the Palo Escopeta site.
